Tonight's weather is starting to look a bit threatening. Most people know that lightening and thunder will force a game to be suspended, but we thought you might want to know the exact details regarding inclement weather game delays and suspensions.

Here are the official Contest Suspension Guidelines for Inclement Weather as listed on the MHSAA website:

Planning for the senior class of 2013 all night afier graduation party (BASH) has begun! We are loolting for parents to help with fundraising, planning, promotion, communication and as chaperones. SPARTAN FOOTBALL VIP PARKING
The Sparta Class of 2013 Bash committee will again offer VIP parking for all home football games at $5 per vehicle. This lot is located close to the game-on the NW end of the stadium. First come first served for this preferred parking!

Dirty Apple 5K Online Registration

Dirty Apple 5K Online Registration

This is a 5K combination road run and obstacle course that includes agility, strength, and speed!  And like the name states, participants will get dirty!  This course is designed to be both family friendly for all ages to participate in the Family Division and a competitive race for the single Participant and 4 Person Team Member Divisions.  

Registration begins at 7:30 am on Saturday, September 15 at the Sparta Civic Center at 75 N. Union, Sparta, MI 49345.

Each preregistered participant will receive a limited edition Dirty Apple  T-shirt, two beverage tickets good for water, pop, or alcoholic beverages (must have valid photo ID) at the Harvest Beverage Station in Roger's Park. 

Consider bringing extra clothes and towels to enjoy the rest of the festivities after the race.

The Annual Jim Keech Memorial Race

The Annual Jim Keech Memorial Race

This 3-Day family friendly lawn mower race helps provide funds for research to eliminate Huntington Disease and takes place on July 20-22 in Sparta. At 8pm on Friday, July 20 the Sparta High School Auditorium at 475 W. Spartan Drive in Sparta will showcase a free screening documentary called “On Your Mark, Get Set, Mow!” This film is about lawn mower racing on the “cutting edge” in the challenging battle of Huntington Disease.

On Saturday, July 21 at Paul C. Miller Airport at 9100 Vinton Avenue in Sparta the gates open at 3pm & the Lawn Mower Race is off at 5pm. On Sunday, July 22 gates open at 11:30am and racing commences at 1pm at Paul C. Miller Airport on Vinton Avenue. Bring your lawn chairs to relax with the whole family while enjoying the races!

Run, Run, Run!

Did you hear about the new race course for the Run Thru Sparta 5K on July 14 during Town & Country Days?  This year, the course will start and end in Balyeat Field by the Entertainment Tent!  At the finish line of the course will be a Craft Show, Commercial Expo, Petting Zoo, Wacky Hair, Football Toss, and Kid’s Fun Run.  Nearby, Rogers Park will have the Pet Expo & Dog Walk and the Visual Arts will be on display in the Library both within a short stroll of Balyeat Field.  After a morning full of fun, the Town & Country Days parade starts at Noon.

Sparta Relay For Life starts today at noon

On Friday June 8th Sparta will host their 6th Annual ACS Sparta Relay For Life event at the Sparta High School Track, 480 S. State Street, Sparta from Noon Friday to Noon Saturday, June 9, 2012.

In addition to 24 hours of walking for pledges, ceremonies honoring Survivors, Care-Givers, and those who succumbed to Cancer, this year Sparta has been chosen to serve as an enrollment site for ACS Cancer Prevention Study-3. Participants in this study will help the American Cancer Society better understand ways to prevent cancer. People wishing to enroll can sign up from 5pm to 9pm on June 8th, at the event.
