Great Lakes Kite Festival Returns

The State Park in Grand Haven comes to life with incredible kite performances this weekend. Don’t miss the fun!

For the 28th year, the world’s best kite flyers - individuals, pairs & teams will be performing continuously on Saturday, May 21 from 10am – 5pm & Sunday, May 22 from 11am – 5pm.

Kite enthusiast and their families are invited to experience different size kites with amazing capabilities controlled by professional kite handlers. There will also be an Open Flying Field to fly your own kite.

Free Fishing Weekend Coming Up

For the Valentine’s weekend, it’s a free fishing weekend for residents and out of state visitors.

All fishing license fees are waived for two days in Michigan, February 13 & 14 from 6:00am – 10:00pm. This allows fishing enthusiasts to enjoy the chance to catch all types of fish on both inland and Great Lakes’ waters during their respective open season. Just remember that all regulations still apply.

Going on now through March Dekes and Dangles Pond Hockey Tournament

The Dekes & Dangles Pond Hockey Invitational was established in January 2016, and will feature multiple tournaments over the course of the winter months. These tournaments will be 3 vs 3, no goalie, double elimination. Our goal with this event is to make it a winter staple for all those that enjoy hockey, but also enjoy the outdoors. This tournament is played on a 85' x 50' rink, with different brackets playing on specific weekends. The event is held at For the Kidz Gymnastics in Wyoming, Michigan located at 1391 Gezon Parkway, Gezon Pkwy SW, Wyoming, MI 49509.

Available Brackets: A Bracket, B+ Bracket, B Bracket, C Bracket, COED Bracket, Women's Bracket, 30+ Bracket & 40+ Bracket

Serious Snowshoe Sunday

Snowshoeing, a great cardiovascular workout is back on Sundays for the next 6 weeks.

The staff at Howard Christian Nature Center at 16191 Red Pine Dr. in Kent City, Michigan invites teens & adults to participate in these snowshoe sessions from 1-3pm this Sunday & the coming five Sundays. These adventures begin with an indoor warm-up program followed by suiting up to hit the trails for some vigorous exercise.

Child Care is available at ALL HCNC events for only $5.00 per child but must be reserved in advance. (Child care will be cancelled, if no registered children.)

Cost is $8/session or $25 for the 6 weeks of sessions. Bring your own snow shoes, $5 or rent from HCNC, $8.

My Town: Date set for the Sparta Rodeo's return

SPARTA, Mich.—Get your cowboy hats ready—the date is set for the return of the Sparta Rodeo.

This year’s event will take place Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6 at 5 p.m. at the Sparta Rodeo Grounds, located at M-37 and 13 Mile Road.  Organizers plan to prepare the grounds beginning August 29.  No glass bottles or dogs will be allowed at the event.  All seating will be on the lawn.

Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for youth ages 6-17 and free for children up to age five.  Camping will also be available from Sept. 2 through Sept. 7; for rates, visit the event site here.
