My Town Sparta: Village DPW supervisor a welcome addition

My Town Sparta: Village DPW supervisor a welcome addition

SPARTA, Mich.—The village’s first Public Works supervisor is entering his second month on the job.

Douglas Kadzban took over the post in early November.  He previously served the City of Muskegon Heights in a similar role for eight years. Kadzban has also worked for the City of East Grand Rapids.

Village council members decided to create the Public Works supervisor position earlier this year to oversee maintenance to the village streets, water and sewage treatment plants- responsibilities previously delegated to the village manager.  Village Manager Julius Suchy says the addition of Kadzban gives him the opportunity to focus on other issues within Sparta.

My Town Sparta: Village debates future of rodeo grounds

SPARTA, Mich.—Village council members are trying to determine the future of the Sparta Rodeo grounds.

Village Manager Julius Suchy says the village bought the land last year for $755,000.  Since then, village officials have been trying to figure out what to do with the 122 acres. In August, the village rented out the property to the organizers of Sparta Rodeo;  a model plane club has also been using the property.

Suchy says the council wants to consider commercial and industrial development options for the land. Suchy also plans to bring in two real estate representatives to present proposals for putting the property on the market.
