Algoma Township's new fire chief takes over December 1

ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich.—Algoma Township will start December with a new fire chief.

Township officials have selected Troy Guerra to take over the post.  Guerra was one of approximately 15 people who applied for the fire chief position. A committee narrowed it down to three finalists, who were all from the Algoma Fire Department.  Township Supervisor Dennis Hoemke says a committee originally selected Ron Tennant to become fire chief, but he declined due to family priorities.

The township board of trustees unanimously approved Guerra’s appointment in October.  He’ll take over as fire chief December 1, when Fire Chief Steven Johnson leaves.
