Ready, Set, Pink Dress Run 2011!

May 28, 2011, Noon – 5 pm

Bar Hop Fundraiser in Downtown Sparta!
(It’s not a race to the finish, its a race to raise money for Cancer Research!)

Teams are already forming in Sparta to compete in raising money for the American Cancer Society.  The PINK DRESS part of the event is to raise awareness of all the loved ones, family members, and friends that we have lost to all types of cancer. Let’s work together to raise money for cancer research.

Participants are divided based on their hosting bar/restaurant and then travel to each of the 4 locations trying to raise more money as a team then the competing teams through fundraising activities. On this journey our teams will also help support the Relay for Life efforts through drink and food sales, as a portion of the profits will be donated.

Steps for a successful Pink Dress Run:

Sparta Improves Water Quality

The Village upgraded the water treatment facility.  The following information was included in the latest water/sewer bill.

VILLAGE OF SPARTA WATER SYSTEM
TWO TREATMENTS IN ONE PLANT

On February 14' 2011 the Village of Sparta water treatment plant went on line with an Iron Removal system. The Iron Removal system has been in the planning stages for the past several years. Extensive pilot studies and engineering cleared the way for the Iron Removal Plant. The treatment plant will greatly reduce treatment costs as the new system requires less chemicals and softening for iron and manganese removal.

Out of My Comfort Zone

Out of My Comfort Zone

I was invited Thursday, 4/7/11 to attend a local self-published author, Dean Cummings lecture regarding his book, Ellie, a Pioneer Girl’s Journey West 1845 at Schuler’s Book & Music Store on Alpine. I was a little intimidated to go because I’m not one to venture out of my comfort zone, since I experienced an accident because someone ran a red light on March 6, 1998 at 13 Mile & M-37 in Sparta.  Many may not understand why a grown adult would feel intimidated but the accident caused me a broken hip in 4 places & a brain injury that paralyzed my left side. I spent 2 ½ months in 3 different hospitals. I was raced to Butterworth Hospital then taken to Grand Valley because the doctor’s were not sure of my outcome. I couldn't walk, talk or write (I’m left handed). With some improvements, I was then moved to Mary Free Bed where I had to undergo grueling speech, physical & occupational therapies to help me regain my mobility.
