2nd Annual Grand Rapids Home for Veterans Benefit Run

On Saturday, July 18, 2015, the VFW Post 4249 of Newaygo will be hosting the Michigan Knights of Columbus 4th Degree District 4, 2nd Annual Grand Rapids Home for Veterans Benefit Run.

Runners are asked to meet at 3000 Monroe Ave NE in Grand Rapids, MI at 9:00am. Ride to the VFW in Newaygo, leaving at 11:30am.

A $25 donation covers food, fun and a raffle ticket. There will also be music, prizes and refreshments.

Let’s Go to Bat for Kids!!

Thursday, June 25, 2015 is the day to be at 5/5 Ballpark at 5:30. Bring all the kids, admission is FREE. Parking is $6 per car but the evening includes children’s games and activities along the concourse, local mascots and a fun night at the ballpark.

In 2014, Catholic Charities of West Michigan welcomed over 4500 West Michigan fans for this event. Let’s see if we can break that record this year, 2015. This event benefits the family strengthening programs of CCWM that help keep families together here in our community.

This ballgame is played by clergy, religious leaders on the Padres team and media celebrities on the Media Giants team.

Job Seekers Ministry hosting Breakfast for People seeking Work

St. Patrick and St. Anthony Parishes in Grand Haven, MI are having a breakfast for people seeking jobs/work. This breakfast is hosted by Job Seekers Ministry on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 8:30 – 10:00am at the Parish Family Center located at 920 Fulton St.

Pre-registration is required by May 18th and those interested should contact the Job Seekers Program at 616-842-0001, ext. 143 to RSVP for the breakfast.

The Job Seekers staff will work with individuals to prepare them to re-enter the job market by helping them with resume writing, coaching, interviewing techniques and job matching. They will spend up to three times with any one individual to help them. This event is open to the general public.

Job Seekers has partnered with Michigan Works, Catholic Charities of West Michigan, Employment Alliance, along with the Grand Haven Community Foundation to make these programs available for people seeking employment.

Missionaries from Nepal Speak at Sparta United Methodist Church

Dr. Lester and Debbie Dornon, United Methodist missionaries from Nepal, will be guest speakers at the Sparta United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 10. Everyone is invited to come and learn about their work in theTansen Hospital in rural Nepal and the needs of the April 25th earthquake victims.

The worship celebration, called Uprising, is held from 5 to 6 p.m. with praise singing and the Dornon's message. Children are welcome with special activities provided  for preschoolers through fifth graders.

Faith’s Walk & Pancake Breakfast Returns on May 2

For the seventh year, Faith’s Walk returns to Sparta. Sparta was Faith’s hometown. The mission of Faith’s Angels is to raise awareness, educate the public and raise funds for congenital heart disease (CHD).

With all the love & support of the community during Faith’s diagnosis, life & passing, this walk is the making of a dream for Faith’s family & other’s with CHD (congenital, heart disease). This 2 mile Walk begins with an Opening ceremony at 9am at Roger’s Park & continues through historic downtown Sparta.

An All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast takes place from 7:30am -10:30am at the Sparta Civic Center located at 75 North Union Street. The cost is $5.00/per person & children under 3, eat free. The Sparta Lion’s Club volunteer their time & talent to cook up a hearty breakfast that includes pancakes, sausage, juice & more for attendees. Also, the local band, “Strike the Rock” will play for patrons in the Civic Center from 8am-9am.

Sparta Village spring clean-up on Friday

Sparta residents are invited to take part in the Spring Clean-up on Friday, April 25.

Residents can visit the DPW Garage at 276 Division in Sparta from 9:00am through 3pm to bring their clean-up items with proof of residency.  

“Yard waste, rubbish (maximum of 4 tires), metal, appliances, batteries, propane tanks, and electronics will be accepted. Hazardous waste including paints, oils, and other liquids will not be accepted. Residents are expected to unload their own yard waste, rubbish etc. Village and township personnel will assist with unloading as much as possible. Workers are checking identification to verify residency.

Free Fishing for Kids Auction in White Cloud

The Russell H. Gilbert Memorial Kids Free Fishing Day Auction will take place on May 3, 2015 this year at the Commission on Aging Building at 93 S. Gibbs in White Cloud, MI. Food will be available to purchase during the auction.

The committee is looking for auction items if you would like to donate before May 2, 2015. All proceeds help support the 33rd Annual Kids Free Fishing Day that will be held this year on Saturday, June 6th at Lake White Cloud.
