Brush Pick-Up

Sparta Village invites the community to place their brush by the curbside this week through April 8 for pick up.

The village crew will pick up branches, limbs & trees smaller than 4 inches in diameter. Larger limbs will be left on the curbside. Brush size is limited to a maxmum diameter of 4 inches.

Brush should be cut with ends lying in the same direction, placed between the sidewalk and the curb. Not in the street. No leaves, garden waste or grass clippings will be picked up during brush pickup.

The Brush Pick-Up Schedule for Spring through Fall is as follows:

April 4-8, May 2-6, June 6-10, July 11-15, August 1-5, September 12-16 & October 3-7

Volunteers & Howard Christian Nature Center staff will delight participants with the creation of some sweet confections for your sweetie on Valentine’s Day.

Women are invited to register for this fun filled “Moms Night Out” evening on Thursday, February 11 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. Child Care is $5.00 per child & Free for HCNC members at HCNC but reserved in advance.Cost for Mom's Night Out is $20 per person.

Pink in the Rink Charity Hockey tourney benefits Gilda's Club

The 5th annual Pink in the Rink tournament is February 5th and 6th at Griffs Ice House in Grand Rapids with proceeds benefiting Gilda's Club.  Tourney host is the combined hockey team of Comstock Park/Northview/Sparta who will play in Pink jerseys featuring names of cancer fighters chosen by each player.  Friday at 545pm, will feature a Pre-game family recognition ceremony for the Slot family.  Kim Slot was a teacher at Northview Schools who lost her battle with cancer in September of 2015. Kim Slot was also the widow of fallen Walker Police officer Trevor Slot.   Multiple fundraisers will take place over the weekend including 50/50 raffles, and silent auctions to help "Stick it to Cancer"!   Here is a list of games:

Serious Snowshoe Sunday

Snowshoeing, a great cardiovascular workout is back on Sundays for the next 6 weeks.

The staff at Howard Christian Nature Center at 16191 Red Pine Dr. in Kent City, Michigan invites teens & adults to participate in these snowshoe sessions from 1-3pm this Sunday & the coming five Sundays. These adventures begin with an indoor warm-up program followed by suiting up to hit the trails for some vigorous exercise.

Child Care is available at ALL HCNC events for only $5.00 per child but must be reserved in advance. (Child care will be cancelled, if no registered children.)

Cost is $8/session or $25 for the 6 weeks of sessions. Bring your own snow shoes, $5 or rent from HCNC, $8.

On December 21- 24, the public has the opportunity to experience an incredible moment in time that originally took place in Bethlehem. The shelter, the manger, the animals, the holy family, all brought to life with the help of ordinary parishioners.

Steel City Rovers to perform in New Era, Michigan

Steel City Rovers are bringing their show, “Winter Tidings” to Morat’s Bakery and Pub Stage in New Era, MI on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 7:00pm.

This group from Canada, performs a mix of old world Celtic seasonal standards, secular and non-secular works and some of their new compositions tailored for the season. An energetic show of toe tapping jigs, reals and uplifting songs. A great seasonal outing.

The cost for this great show is a $5.00 cover charge; dinner prices from $10.00 - $15.00 from the dinner menu.
