There is some flooding in Rockford.  If you need assistance, the Red Cross has opened a shelter for flooding victims at Alpine Baptist Church, 692 7 Mile Road NW in Comstock Park.

Free program helps home and business owners deal with mercury

(ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY COMPANY)– The Environmental Quality Company is proud to partner with The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Mercury Collection Project.

This is an on-going effort to collect and properly recycle mercury.  Small and large business operations have traditionally been overlooked during mercury collection events.  The project’s objective is to address this issue and promote a long-term solution for easily collecting and recycling of mercury.  The program is free to anyone located in Michigan – residents included. 

The program is easy.

The Village of Sparta invites the community to take part in this educational workshop at the Sparta Civic Center on April 30 at 6pm. This workshop will give points to help decrease your irrigation water bill and learn ways to make differences in waters that flow into the Rogue River, along with how households in Sparta through a small way, can make a difference in the environment.

Environmental Assurance Program Verifies Local Farms

Kent County Farms Recognized by MAEAP

 

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s (MDARD) Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) is recognizing two farms in Kent County for implementing appropriate pollution prevention practices. The program assists farmers to comply with state and federal environmental regulations and with Right to Farm practices. Technical assistance was provided by Rob Stein of the Ottawa Conservation District.

 

The Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) recognized:

· Country Blessings Studio Store, of Gowen, as a verified farm in the Cropping and Farmstead Systems.

· Green Tree Orchards, of Sparta, as a verified farm in the Farmstead System.
