My Town Sparta: Algoma Township proceeds with park development project

ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich.—Algoma Township is working on developing a plan for a new park east of the Rogue River.

Using funding from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Algoma Township purchased a piece of property along Edgerton Avenue, north of 12 Mile Road and named it River's Edge Park.   A new driveway has already been constructed on the property.Township Supervisor Dennis Hoemke says the township is now looking at how to develop the park into a natural space for the community, padding handicap accessible walkways and a couple of overlook sites for fishing the Rogue River.  Hoemke says the land is primarily wetland, so it will largely remain a nature preserve.

Hoemke says the township hopes to have a plan for the park in place within the next few months to apply for grants to fund the work.
