My Town Sparta: Education Foundation gives away computers to bowlers

SPARTA, Mich.-- Sparta Lanes has been the site of the Sparta Education Foundation’s RetroBowl fundraiser for the past 12 years, but this year there will be some changes.

Organizers of the event, which takes place on Saturday, March 15, decided to make participation more affordable and offer better door prizes. Five Chromebook computers, donated by Michigan Appraisal and Information Systems Intelligence, will be given away to bowlers as door prizes!

In an effort to include more families, the cost to bowl has been reduced to $10 per person or $45 for a team (up to five people). Anyone can bowl-- students, siblings, friends, parents, teachers, Sparta alumni, etc.  Bowlers can choose between a bowling session at 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. All bowlers receive two games of bowling (or two hours), shoe rental, popcorn and pop, and a chance to win one of many door prizes provided by local businesses. Bumper lanes will also be available.  Bowlers may also vote for a teacher on their sign-up form, and the top three teachers with the most votes at each school will win a cash prize to spend in their classroom.

Proceeds from the event help provide grants awarded by the foundation twice a year to teachers for improving learning. This year, the grants awarded total $18,741. The Sparta Education Foundation also receives donations from school staff, businesses, individuals and hosts several other annual fundraisers.

A RetroBowl sign-up sheet and more information about the Sparta Education Foundation can be found on the non-profit’s website; just click on the parents/students tab. Please sign-up by March 3; walk-in registration will be allowed if space is available.
