Bob & Liz Sanford of Sparta have spent 30 years of their 62 years of marriage, helping out at North Kent Community Services, located at 10075 Northland Dr in Rockford. They say the need for helping people is greater than it has ever been.

People who work certain jobs that only pay minimum wage are still in need of help with food and personal items. Bob said, “We are the only food bank in the area where people can come and pick out what they need rather than just having a bag of items given to them.” Most organizations advertise for food during the Holidays but food banks are in need of everything year around.

Gently used clothing and bed linens and used household items along with food are all needed. This time of year, the shelves get pretty bare, according to Liz & Bob. People are urged to go through their closets and home and donate items they no longer need or very seldom use and pass them along to places such as this. Pick up a few extra items when grocery shopping, if possible, to help someone have a nutritious meal.

Hours for North Kent Community Services are 8:00am-6:00pm Monday thru Thursday and 10:00am-2:00pm Friday and Saturday.
