Meijer redevelopment plan approved by Township

Meijer redevelopment plan approved by Township

ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich.—A plan to allow a senior living area near the Meijer on 10 Mile Road has the green light.

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, the Algoma Township Board approved the proposal, with some modifications-- any signs for the development will only be allowed on outlots, not along 10 Mile Road, and  restaurant facilities added to the outlots cannot be drive-through, but can have a drive-up feature for takeout.

The plan previously approved by the planning commission called for redividing the plot owned by Meijer to nine units and redefining uses for the back parcels to allow for future senior housing. The planning commission recommended deleting language which did not allow for restaurants with drive-through facilities and restricting access to 10 Mile Road for two of the units.  Both units would need internal drives.

Banking on Goodwill: ChoiceOne helps the hungry

SPARTA, Mich.—Employees of ChoiceOne Bank are helping to end hunger in West Michigan, one can at a time.

The Sparta-based bank began a can collecting contest at all of its branches Nov. 11.  Staff and customers at each of the bank’s dozen branches were encouraged to donate 100 cans or more to help families in need during the holidays. Overall, ChoiceOne collected 1,743 canned goods for four area pantries.

“We value the families in our communities,” said James Bosserd, president and CEO of ChoiceOne Bank. “It is our hope that our families live and grow in a community supporting each other. This contest helps to truly begin to think about the importance of community. It’s a local thing.”

The branch with the most cans was also awarded extra funding to donate to their local pantry.
