SPARTA, Mich.-- An eyesore in downtown Sparta is no longer.

Crews are demolishing two dilapidated buildings on East Division Street to make room for the expansion of Downtown Trini's and Margarita Joe's Restaurant.  The project includes adding outdoor patio seating, a new fascade, a larger kitchen and restroom and more indoor seating.  The restaurant will retain its Mexican fiesta vibe.

“We’ve been honored to be part of the Sparta community for 20 years.  It’s been an opportunity and a blessing and we are looking forward to many more,” said brothers Joe and Trini Paiz, who own the restaurant.

"This is an excellent commitment from a great downtown establishment to remain in downtown Sparta for years to come. The Village is extremely excited to see this project moving forward and we can’t wait to see the impact it will have for the rest of downtown Sparta. We hope it is the first domino to fall in a series of many," added Village Manager Julius Suchy.

The demolition should take less than two weeks. The expansion project is expected to be complete by spring 2015.
