My Town Sparta: Faith's Walk May 3

SPARTA, Mich.— The date is set for the annual Faith's Walk at Roger's Park.

Faith's Angels will hold the event May 3, with a pancake breakfast prior to the walk.  Of the funds raised, 80 percent will go directly to congenital heart disease research.

Faith's Angels was founded eight years ago,  in memory of Faith Goodfellow, who died two weeks after birth. Faith had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which meant she was born with no left ventricle in her heart.  The doctors at University of Michigan performed heart surgery on Faith just three days after her birth to reroute her blood flow so she could survive.  She was kept on transportable life support the next 11 days, but then passed away after surgery.

Faith’s Angels is a non-profit organization that raises funds for medical research to help children born with CHD.  More than a dozen businesses in Sparta support the local organization with a paper heart campaign.  Before this year's campaign, the organization collected more than $7,000 in donations. This year, ChoiceOne Bank alone has collected $1,159 for Faith's Angels, through the paper heart campaign and a $3 wear jeans to work for a day deal for employees.
