Walk in Wednesday, November 1 for Tammy

Tammy Anderson, a special friend, wife, mother, nurse and a long time member of The Club Fitness & Tanning had surgery for a brain tumor on September 16, 2010, which showed she has a grade IV glioblastoma. Tammy's life will be challenging & not easy but she is strong-willed and a determined Christian, who has put her recovery in the one above.

The Club Fitness & Tanning organization at 285 S. State Street in Sparta is having a special day dedicated to Tammy. 100% of all walk-in fitness & tanning proceeds from that day, November 1st from 4:30am-10pm (and any other donations that come in) will be donated to The Anderson Family Benefit.

Where: November 1. 2010, 4:30am-10pm - The Club Fitness and Tanning at 258 S. State Street in Sparta, Mi 49345, Phone (616)887-1116

Sparta 5th Graders Blast to the Past

Every year Sparta 5th graders take a tour of the historic sites in Sparta including the Myers Schoolhouse Museum and the Historic Railroad Depot.  The tours are led by Mr. Larry Carter to learn about the history of Sparta.  Historic Commissioners and Friends of the Commission were on-site during the tour last week to talk about Sparta's one room school house and share the history of Sparta with the students.  Sparta is lucky to have a teacher like Mr. Carter who goes above and beyond to educate our students!

Interested to learn more about the Myers School House Museum or Sparta's history?  Join the Sparta Township Historic Commission at the next Open House at the Myers School House Museum on Sunday November 7th from 2pm-5pm.  The Myers School Museum is located at the corner of 13 Mile Rd NW & Division Ave.

And a Cup of Tea, Too.

I wasn’t expecting to find a gift idea yesterday when I stopped by the Sparta Township Library to return a book, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the perfect gift for the next person on my list! Typically, I only think about borrowing things from the library, and I know they wouldn’t appreciate me giving away my rented books as gifts! However, the gift packages I stumbled upon were just perfect for that “hard to buy for” person!
They’re perfect gifts for a teacher, co-worker, or an aunt that may enjoy curling up on the couch with a good book and a cup of hot tea or cocoa.
Lois, the librarian, told me all about the custom-made gift packages that support the Sparta Library. The gift package includes a book, tea cup or coffee mug, tea or hot chocolate, and other goodies. The newer infant gift packages were very cute and those sets included kids books and a treat like animal crackers.
